At Scraptoft Golf Club we have been committed for several years to creating a more inclusive culture within golf. Building on already strong foundations, in 2026 we appointed a new Women in Golf Charter Champion and reaffirmed our commitment to England Golf and the R&A to continue to open opportunities for women to work and participate in our sport. At Scraptoft everyone is involved and we have the commitment of our Board, Members and our staff in developing and executing our plan. Our plan sits within the Clubs strategy. Our overall aim is to:
•      Increase participation, encourage more women to play golf and ultimately increase our membership.
•      Allow greater access to our club, course and facilities for new people to try golf, we will deliver a monthly golf experience event, and group coaching.
•      Offer alternative membership opportunities to encourage participation, we will offer a variety of trial memberships.

**England Golf Women in Golf Charter
The Charter is a statement of intent designed by the R&A and supported England Golf to foster a more inclusive, diverse and welcoming culture within golf clubs. At Scraptoft Golf Club we are proud signatories of this charter, and we are committed to encouraging more women, girls and families to enjoy the great game of golf. We strongly believe that the game is for everyone, and our club is working to dismantle old stereotypes, modernise and ensure that every visitor feels welcomed and supported.     

**Club Professional, Charter Champion and Buddy System
At Scraptoft Golf Club our resident PGA member, Simon Wood is fully supportive of the charter and our initiatives. We have an appointed Women in Golf Charter Champion: Clare McLaughlin. Clare is a committed Community Golf Instructor and an active ambassador for growing the game. She supports women and girls at every stage of their golfing journey, creating welcoming spaces that builds confidence and connection. Through her wider corporate initiatives, she campaigns for golf as an accessible, empowering sport for all. Clare brings energy, inclusivity and a strong community focus to the role of Charter Champion, helping Scraptoft GC drive meaningful progress for women in Golf. Whilst Clare focusses on strategy, reporting, promotion and ensuring that our club continues to build an inclusive culture for women, she works with an amazing network of ‘Buddies’ who support the work on the ground. We have 9 volunteer Buddies who help new and existing members to feel welcomed, confident and connected – whether this is through joining in with our introduction and experience events, joining them for some rounds, answering questions or helping them transition from lessons to the course, they are friendly points of contact. Buddies bring the charter into reality in day-to-day club life. Together we support every woman who walks though our doors.

**Our Commitments

1.     Coaching Pathways: we are committed to delivering one fun golf experience event per month. We will also deliver group and individual coaching as well as opportunities to get out on the course without having a membership, offering fun competition events to new women. We have a relaxed and informal approach to help new people onboard.

2.     Membership Models: we are committed to offering flexible and trial membership models for women to try golf and become part of our community before they must commit.

3.     Raising Awareness: we are committed to ensuring that all our channels, including our website and social media presence is equally represented with women in the game. We will promote the charter widely and with pride.

4.     Charter Terms of Affiliation: we are committed to retaining our Safe Golf accreditation and ensuring that our club has a suitable Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy that is adhered too. We will ensure that all our documentation is up to date with the support of our England Golf, Community Support Officer.  

5.     Appointment of Charter Champion: we are committed to the appointment of this role to ensure that we can deliver on our commitments, and we will report on our progress.
